The South Dakota Department of Tourism recognizes the 2022 Great Place designees

The South Dakota Department of Tourism has recognized 48 businesses statewide with the 2022 Great place in South Dakota Designation. These tourism-focused businesses have earned the award for their outstanding hospitality and customer service.

That Great place in South Dakota The program is designed to shine a spotlight on businesses that exemplify great service by going above and beyond for guests and employees. The goal of the program is to strengthen the tourism industry in South Dakota and to offer support to members of the tourism industry.

“Welcoming hospitality and exceptional customer service are the foundation of supporting a strong tourism industry here in South Dakota,” said James Hagen, secretary of the Department of Tourism. “The South Dakota Great Place program recognizes businesses that have gone the extra mile to ensure their employees have received the proper training and have the skills needed to meet visitor needs.”

Online application forms for the year 2023 Great place in South Dakota will open in February 2023. Everyone is invited to take part. More information about the Great Place program can be found here.

The department also offers an online hospitality training program. The training is free and all companies in the tourism industry are encouraged to share the training with their employees. For more information on the department’s hospitality programs, visit
