Traditional STEM education grants have expanded beyond K-12 to include “Empower” grants for College, technology career paths and entrepreneurship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., November 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Akamai Foundation, a nonprofit fund endowed by Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the cloud company that enables and protects life on the Internet, today announces the recipients of the global STEM education grants Akamai Foundation 2022 announced.

The Akamai Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of technology innovators by supporting STEM education with a focus on the pursuit of excellence in mathematics and the diversification of the technology ecosystem. The scholarships focus on equal access to quality STEM education with supportive programs aimed at bringing more diversity to the technology industry.

In addition to the K-12 STEM grants for early learners, the Foundation introduced a new grant program called Empower. The Empower Scholarship Program is an invitational program being offered for the first time this year. The program expands the foundation’s giving to create more diverse talent in the technology industry by supporting later stages of the talent pipeline, such as: B. Underrepresented population groups in higher education, technological career paths and entrepreneurship. Empower grants are grants with higher thresholds ranging from $25$100,000 and above, with 1 million dollars awarded in this first cycle.

The Akamai Foundation began funding postgraduate initiatives with the associate-to-master degree earlier this year way for technology (“A2M4Tech”) program. This innovative and affordable path into the technology sector is designed for learners beginning their undergraduate education at community college. The development and commissioning of the program is carried out by Northeast University through a $750,000 Akamai Foundation grant. The program addresses institutional barriers that have long slowed progress in achieving equity in computer science. It combines academic study and work by offering students full-time employment opportunities during their studies.

The K-12 STEM Scholarships and Empower Scholarships for Early Learners in 2022 Total 2 million dollars.

The submission window for funding applications 2023 will open in the first quarter of 2023. Important dates and guidelines for grant submissions will be communicated through the Akamai Foundation website later this year.
