There’s only one college basketball program ready to take on Sunday Night Football and that’s our Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats have a mighty test ahead of them Sunday night when they take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
The Cats and the Bulldogs have both already suffered losses this season and both will be looking for redemption on the national stage. Who are the Gonzaga Bulldogs? Here’s what you need to know about the enemy.
Head coach Mark Few
Gonzaga head coach Mark Few is in his 23rd season as the Bulldogs’ headman. Few have turned his program from a March Madness Cinderella favorite into the powerhouse you hope your team avoids in the big dance.
The Bulldogs have become an annual title contender and that’s entirely due to Coach Few. Few awards are longer than a receipt from CVS. One of the only things missing from this list is a win over Kentucky.
Old Mr. Timme
Gonzaga’s Drew Timme is entering his 100th year of college. It’s probably not a hundred years, but it feels like he was at school with Perry Ellis in the 19th century. Like his coach, Timme’s list of accolades expands over his many years in the program, including last season’s CBS Preseason National Player of the Year award.
The keyword there would be pre-season. Oscar Tshiebwe would be the man standing before Timme, who won all of the National Player of the Year awards last season when Tshiebwe won awards season. Timme vs. Tshiebwe is a match made in heaven for any basketball fan.
The long-awaited matchup is finally here. People who said John Calipari ducked the Zags will now be praying the Bulldogs can beat the Wildcats. In the words of Coach Cal: “Enough talking. Let’s play ball.” *Drop microphone.
